What is your thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) level?

The thyroid gland is delicate in its function.
When the anterior pituitary gland produces thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) that stimulates the thyroid gland. If TSH levels are too high this can lead to hypothyroidism.
Hypothyroidism can cause twitching, swelling of the neck, mood swings, and anxiety and weakness. Hashimoto’s disease is the most common auto immune disease to cause an underactive thyroid and people may even increase their risk of developing certain cancers.

How can a Thyroid Test help me?

The thyroid is not often treated with importance – but it should be. Our thyroid tests will screen the health of your thyroid and whether you’re overproducing TSH.
This preventative test works by checking your blood. You’ll need to use a blood sample with our at-home kit, you’ll get results to assess whether you’re producing too much.
Once we uncover that, we’ll know whether you’re healthy or at risk of hypothyroidism.

The thyroid is a gland that produces hormones and releases them into the bloodstream that controls the rate at which the body uses and stores energy from the food we eat, also known as the metabolic rate.

A TSH level higher than 5μIU/mL indicates a higher-than-normal level and the possibility of an underactive thyroid.

The test provides results based on a Positive/Higher or Negative/Normal basis. Positive results can then be used to request a secondary test or consult further medical advice.

Symptoms you might be suffering from:

Checking the Thyroid level can be an important part of a health regime and the first step to further investigation if results indicate anything underactive. Hypothyroidism can start slowly with no immediate symptoms until it has advanced. Obvious symptoms displayed include:

  • Weight gain
  • Difficulty losing weight
  • Irregular or heavy periods
  • Feeling fatigued, cold, or tired regularly
  • Forgetfulness and depression

It is a rapid test for the detection of hypothyroidism. TSH rapid test assesses the presence of elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone TSH, >5μIU/mL levels in a whole blood sample. The thyroid plays a central role in the control of your metabolism.

In this test procedure, the anti-TSH antibody is immobilized in the test line region and coated particles, respectively. After a specimen is added to the specimen well of the device, it reacts with anti-TSH antibody-coated particles in the test. This mixture migrates chromatographically along the length of the test and interacts with the immobilized anti-TSH antibody. Positive specimens react with the specific anti-TSH antibody-coated particles to form a colored line at the test line region of the membrane.

Thyroid-stimulating hormone (also known as thyrotropin, thyrotropic hormone, TSH, or hTSH for human TSH) is a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroxine (T4) and then triiodothyronine (T3) which stimulates the metabolism of almost every tissue in the body (1).

It is a glycoprotein hormone synthesized and secreted by thyrotrope cells in the anterior pituitary gland, which regulates the endocrine function of the thyroid (2).

TSH (with a half-life of about an hour) stimulates the thyroid gland to secrete the hormone thyroxine (T4), which has only a slight effect on metabolism.

T4 is converted to triiodothyronine (T3), which is the active hormone that stimulates metabolism. About 80% of this conversion is in the liver and other organs, and 20% in the thyroid itself (1).
